Sights & Experiences

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern uses the slogan the “Best of Northern Germany” for good reason. The Recknitz Valley, is a nature reserve on the Recknitz River, south-east of Ribnitz-Damgarten, a town known for its amber, and a unique habitat for rare wild birds in the hinterland of the Fischland-Darss-Zingst coastal region and just 30 km away from the Hanseatic city of Rostock. In addition to the proximity to the white beaches of the Baltic Sea, our region offers many gems that are waiting to be discovered by you. Whether it’s sporting activities, the culture on offer, places to indulge or exploring history – your journey of discovery can begin.

Ozeaneum Stralsund

The OZEANEUM Stralsund shows a fascinating underwater journey through the northern seas and offers exciting adventure exhibitions. Surrounded by spectacular architecture, it presents one of the world’s largest exhibitions on whales with full-size replicas of the giants of the sea. Europe’s most comprehensive Baltic Sea exhibition and the “Children’s Sea” adventure area will not only delight the youngest museum visitors. The adjacent penguin enclosure on the OZEANEUM’s rooftop terrace with a view of Stralsund’s old town is one of the highlights, as is the “Open Atlantic” tank with a capacity of 2.6 million litres, home to the 3-metre-long sand tiger shark Niki, various ray species and countless schooling fish. 50 aquariums, some of them huge, round off the experience of a visit to “Europe’s Museum of the Year 2010”.
